Germany: Politically motivated crimes spike in 2023

Image
Politically motivated crimes in Germany rose in 2023 more than in any year over the past two decades. War in the Middle East and increased political polarization at home both appear to have played a role. German officials on Tuesday revealed that the number of politically motivated crimes logged in 2023 had risen to a new high as part of a continuing upward trend. The news comes after Germany saw a string of violent attacks against politically active people promoting parties ahead of European elections in June. It also comes at a time of mounting antisemitic attacks at a time of renewed war in the Middle East. How the numbers work out Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) president, Holger Münch, said politically motivated crime has almost doubled in the past 10 years, with 60,028 recorded offences. That figure is the highest since figures were first compiled in 2001. The increase compared to 2022 is less than 2%, but it is still seen as part of an unwelcome trend. "Th...

Hamburg 'caliphate' rally prompts calls for punishment

Image
German politicians have called for action after reports of a rally in which speakers demanded Shariah law in Germany. A leading Bavarian conservative said such appeals should lead to jail time and citizenship removal. A top Bavarian politician on Wednesday demanded tougher consequences for people advocating for Germany to become a "caliphate," saying they should face prison terms and lose citizenship. Alexander Dobrindt, who heads Bavaria's conservative Christian Social Union (CSU) in Germany's Bundestag, joined lawmakers from across the political divide in responding to a reported rally in Hamburg calling for strict Islamic law to replace German democracy. What did Dobrindt say? "Anyone who wants to introduce Sharia [strict Islamic law] in Germany and declare a caliphate is an enemy of our democracy," said Dobrindt, whose party sits in opposition to Chancellor Olaf Scholz's ruling coalition in the German parliament. "The state must conf...

CDU EXPERT MAKES RADICAL PROPOSALTake luxury cars and watches away from clan bosses!

Image
The clan riots in Castrop-Rauxel and Essen shock Germany. But the Minister of State responsible for integration, Reem Alabali-Radovan (33, SPD), of all people, says almost nothing about it. She only spoke to BILD of "terrifying" acts of violence that the security authorities "must consistently punish, regardless of the origin of the people". Instead, the CDU migration expert Serap Güler, known throughout Germany, is now speaking in plain language. Güler on BILD: "We only fight clan crime with the full force of the law and by grabbing the perpetrators exactly where it hurts them the most: We have to take away their toys, such as luxury cars and watches, and confiscate their real estate." Güler, who has an unrivaled profile on the subject in the Union, affirmed: “Unfortunately, integration courses are of little help. At the same time, we have to protect the children and young people from and from these families – if necessary, by withdrawing the ...

Germany to invest €5 billion in hydrogen technology

Image
Germany has announced plans to invest €5 billion in the development of hydrogen technology over the next few years. This move is part of the country's commitment to transitioning to cleaner energy sources and reducing its carbon footprint. Hydrogen is considered to be a promising clean energy source because it can be produced using renewable sources such as wind and solar power, and can be used in various sectors such as transportation, industry, and heating. However, the technology is still in its early stages and requires significant investment to scale up and become more widely available. The German government's investment will support the development of hydrogen production, storage, and distribution infrastructure, as well as research and development in the field. The aim is to make hydrogen technology more cost-effective and competitive with fossil fuels. This move is part of Germany's wider efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, as outlined in its C...
