UAE, Tunisia sign MoU to revamp 'Home of Ibn Khaldun'
In a significant development, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Tunisia have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to transform the historic 'Home of Ibn Khaldun' in Tunis into a museum. The MoU, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of the Presidential Court, was signed by Abdurrahman Mohamed Al Owais, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, and Dr. Hayat Qatat Al-Qarmazi, the Minister of Cultural Affairs of Tunisia.
This collaborative effort aims to honor the legacy of the renowned scholar Abdurahman ibn Khaldoun by converting his house into a museum. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Dr. Yousef Al Obaidli, Director-General of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre in Abu Dhabi, and Dr. Iman Ahmed Al-Salami, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Tunisia, along with several officials from both countries.
Chairman Al Owais expressed the significance of this initiative, stating, "The restoration project of the great Arab scholar and philosopher Ibn Khaldun's house in Tunis, under the noble patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is one of the endeavors undertaken by the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre to preserve human heritage at local, Arab, and international levels."
He further emphasized the UAE's commitment to safeguarding global heritage, both tangible and intangible, as exemplified by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and upheld by the wise leadership of the UAE. This commitment promotes tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and cultural harmony.
In response, Minister Al-Qarmazi commended the longstanding cultural cooperation between the two nations in the realms of culture and heritage. She described the signing of the MoU as a positive step towards enhancing the partnership between the UAE and Tunisia, while also celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Arab and Islamic worlds.
The collaborative efforts of these organizations, under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, demonstrate the dedication of the UAE and Tunisia to preserve and promote cultural treasures that resonate on local, regional, and global scales.
