LEFT-WING POLITICIAN JULIANE NAGEL (44) IS SAID TO HAVE HIT THE POLICE Members of the state parliament arrested at a demonstration for Lina E
Leipzig – At a demonstration at which, among other things, solidarity was expressed for the convicted left-wing extremist Lina E. (28) , the member of the state parliament Juliane Nagel (44, Left Party) was provisionally arrested on Thursday evening.
As video recordings on Twitter show, the 44-year-old was apparently taken away by two officers against her will and pressed against a police car. The left-wing politician had previously organized and registered the demo herself.
What happened?
According to the police, Nagel had interfered in a police measure. "She is said to have hit one of the officers with her hand," said a spokesman. "The allegation of physical assault on an officer is now being examined." It was still unclear in the evening whether a complaint would be filed.
Nagel: "I was pushed aside"
Juliane Nagel herself explains the incident to BILD: “As the applicant, I observed the police measures after the demo. One of the measures was directed against a minor. I was then pushed aside by the Berlin officials and taken away in handcuffs.”
According to the police, the incident happened right after the end of the otherwise mostly peaceful demonstration. Only some of the approximately 170 participants would have masked themselves or ignited pyrotechnics.
The demonstration was actually registered under the motto "Youth Day", but some of the participants were there with posters for the release of Lina E.
During the event, the member of parliament had already complained in a tweet about the "impossible massive police presence at a youth demonstration".
After the riots the night before, in which four officers were injured and even a helicopter crew was attacked with a laser beam, the police are on the move throughout the city with a large contingent.
The authorities are preparing at full speed for the long-announced "Day X" protests with threatened serious crimes. Left-wing extremists call “Day X” the Saturday after the verdict against Lina E., which now falls on June 3rd.
