UAE President Expresses Desire to Strengthen Ties with Russia at St. Petersburg International Economic Forum

During the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) conveyed his nation's commitment to enhancing bilateral relations with Russia. Notably, the UAE has refrained from joining Western sanctions against Moscow, which further underlines their willingness to foster stronger ties.

Addressing Russian President Vladimir Putin, Sheikh Mohammed expressed his pleasure in being present and emphasized the UAE's desire to build upon the existing relationship. The UAE's trust in President Putin to facilitate this growth was also reiterated during their meeting on the forum's sidelines in St. Petersburg.
As a Middle East economic powerhouse, the UAE has maintained a neutral stance concerning the Ukraine conflict. Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the UAE's ongoing support for all endeavors aimed at achieving a political solution through dialogue and diplomacy, with the ultimate goal of global peace and stability. Following the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed took to Twitter to reaffirm this commitment.
In a reciprocal gesture, President Putin expressed his gratitude to Sheikh Mohammed for his efforts in securing the release of prisoners of war in Ukraine, highlighting the positive impact of their cooperation on humanitarian matters.
This exchange at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum solidifies the UAE's intentions to strengthen its relationship with Russia, underscoring their dedication to fostering a constructive and mutually beneficial partnership.

Former Russian consulate targeted by protesters

  Russia says it will call for six protesters who entered the former Russian consulate in Leipzig to be punished. The former Russian consulate in Leipzig Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Friday that it would lodge an official complaint with the German government after six people threatened to take over a building that once served as a Russian consulate in the eastern city of Leipzig. It said two staff members from the Russian Embassy had called police after the six intruders climbed over the fence of the building and displayed banners expressing anti-Russia sentiments from the balcony while threatening to take control of the property. Police in the city said six German nationals were currently being investigated on suspicion of trespassing. The incident comes after Germany this week recalled its ambassador to Russia after Berlin accused Moscow of being behind cyberattacks targeting both defense and aerospace firms and its ruling Social Democratic Party.

  Along with Canada, the UAE is looking into investment options for wealth funds with a combined $3 trillion in assets. Combined economic growth and collaborative investment opportunities for the two countries could result from a joint operation. The inauguration of the Canada-UAE Sovereign Wealth Fund Council was welcomed by the Canadian Ambassador to the UAE, Kris Panday (SWFC). UAE-Canada wealth management The SWFC’s goal, according to the Ambassador, is to maximize the synergies between the leading institutional investors in Canada and the UAE in order to provide superior risk-adjusted returns in support of shared objectives. He added that the SWFC will assist in locating opportunities for strategic capital partnership and thought leadership between Canadian public pension funds (PPFs) and SWFs in the UAE in international markets.
