Illegal entry increased significantly in the first half of the year

The number of people entering Germany illegally increased significantly in the first half of the year.
According to the federal police, a total of 45,340 people entered the country from January to June without an entry permit. That was 56 percent more than in the same period last year. Among other things, the people were recorded during police checks at the external borders of the Schengen area, but also in trains or on railway systems.
